Support for the development of smart locking systems for bike sharing

▪️ The challenge
Ecovelo aimed to design a robust, remote-controlled locking system tailored to the demands of shared bike fleets. The goal was to deliver a secure, easy-to-integrate solution that could withstand intensive use while enabling remote operation and monitoring.
▪️ Solution
Kickmaker supported Ecovelo throughout the development process, from early ideation to lab-tested proof of concept.
We facilitated creative workshops, produced functional prototypes, and conducted mechanical resistance testing to validate performance before the pre-production redesign phase.
▪️ Objectives
We collaborated with Ecovelo on:
-
Developing remote-controlled lock prototypes combining electronics and mechanics
-
Conducting mechanical resistance tests to ensure durability
Technical development
As a technical partner, Kickmaker played a key role in bringing Ecovelo’s locking system to life.
-
Ideation workshops to refine functional goals and user needs
-
Creation of concept sketches and early design iterations
-
Development of a smart lock prototype with integrated electronics and mechanics
-
Laboratory testing to validate structural and mechanical durability
-
Functional POC assembly to evaluate locking behavior and control system
-
Pre-industrial redesign to prepare for production

Kickmaker's expertise
